Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu is not just a perfect follow up to Gabbar Singh but even surpasses it in many departments.

Puri, who disappointed everybody with Devudu Chesina Manushulu, ensures unadulterated entertainment and thought-provoking moments in his latest offering.
When a righteous journalist is killed by a corrupt politician named Rana Babu, a socially responsible mechanic Ramnabu, played by Pawan Kalyan, turns to journalism, after being persuaded by Ganga, played by Tamannaah, to bring expose crimes of the politician.

However, Rambabu did not anticipate that, as a journalist, he was always expected to play by the books. Irked by the situation, he steps down as a journalist and clashes horns with Rana Babu.

How will Rambabu stop Rana at all costs from becoming the next chief minister forms the rest of the story.

Puri takes a dig at the political state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh. The scenes that unfold are mirror the current condition of people in the state.
Sensitive issues such as Telangana and riots among college students are addressed intelligently.

Of course, the style Puri chooses may appear cliched but on the whole, he does stir the mind.

The audiences will be engaged by Pawan's dynamism and Puri's powerful dialogues and his narration at breakneck speed.
The film keeps you hooked, especially during comical moments involving Brahmanandam and Ali.

Puri brilliantly uses these comedians to emphasise on the flawed, over-hyped and unethical media in this country.

One particular scene between Brahmanandam and Pawan in the newsroom is hilarious and appreciative.

Pawan performs with ease and elan and his timing for comedy is commendable.
Tamannaah is impressive in her role and proves she is one of the best actresses in the industry.

Kota Srinivasa Rao and Prakash Raj, playing father and son and villains, are maniacal and brilliant.

However, the role essayed by Prakash seems similar to the one he played in Businessman.

Puri has once again proved his mettle as a scriptwriter and director. Although the film may partly appear superfluous, he and Pawan do manage to grab your attention.

When a director like Puri Jagannadh is associated with a film, one expects full-on entertainer. But his “Devudu Chesina Manushulu”, starring Ravi Teja, turns out to be a disappointment.

Jagannadh, known for making commercial entertainers like “Badri”, “Idiot”, “Itlu Shravani Subramanyam”, “Pokiri” and “Deshamuduru”, has never failed as a dialogue writer, even though his scripts are flawed. But in “Devudu Chesina Manushulu”, he has failed both as writer and director.

The film starts off in Vaikunta Loka where Goddess Lakshmi asks Lord Vishnu to tell her a story. He begins to narrate the tale of two orphans - Ravi Teja and Ileana, who are born in different countries, but are destined to fall in love.

Not only the script is weak, the whole narration is dull and boring. It looks like the director was in a hurry to complete the film, which also disappoints in the technical department.

Ravi Teja tries to add some energy to his badly written role and succeeds to some extent. His dance movements, dialogues and action are funny and comical. Ileana has shed a lot of weight, but looks odd in her new hairstyle.

Prakash Raj plays a different character, while Brahmanandam, Ali and Kovai Sarala have managed to tickle the audience’s funny bone with their comic timing.

Shyam K. Naidu is a good cinematographer, but somehow he has failed to meet the expectations.

Raghu Kunche has composed some fine tunes.

Verdict - Watch it if you do not have any alternative

Ravi Teja is called Mass Maharaja in the Telugu film industry as he has been a part of several mass-oriented potboilers. His antics, energy level and dialogue delivery attracts viewers. Many of his films lacked good content, but it worked at the box office because of his presence.

But in the last few years, the actor delivered disappointing films like “Don Seenu” and “Mirapakaay”, and it seems his bad phase won’t end soon.

“Daruvu” is slightly better than his previous films. When audience watches Ravi Teja’s film, they do not expect logic or a credible story in it. They want rip-roaring comedy by the actor and the comedians like Brahmanandam.

Ravi Teja has a knack for adding entertaining elements with is mannerism and action sequences, but overdose of such elements at the cost of a believable story sometimes do not yield favourable results.

Something similar has happened to the film, where such elements have backfired. The film is too noisy and crude. The screenplay is just like an old wine in an old bottle.

Ravi Teja plays Bullet Raja, a thief who is in love with Shweta. A local goon who is also in love with Shweta kills bullet Raja. Bullet Raja’s death turns out to be a deliberate mistake by (god) Chitragupta who wants to create problems for his new boss, Yama Dharma Raja.

After his death, Bullet Raja reaches Hell and creates a big commotion when he learns that his death was a mistake. Since Bullet Raja’s body has been cremated, Yama Dharma Raja sends his soul back to enter the body of home minister who is corrupt but funny.

Once Bullet Raja’s soul enters the minister’s body, he changes and his new persona creates confusion for his associates and Shweta too. How the minister changes the society and eliminates crime forms the rest of the story.

Ravi Teja comes out with another energetic performance and saves the film to a certain extent. Tapsee has a sizeable space in the film but she doesn’t emote well.

Jayasudha and Shivaji Prabhu have given a decent performance. Brahmanandam once again shines in the comic role.

Vijay Anthony’s music is a letdown. The background score needed a little bit of improvement. The camera work is good.

Daruvu just ends up as a time pass film and nothing else. In a way it may not meet the expectations of the family audience.

Verdict : Ordinary fare, rides on Ravi Teja’s shoulders

“Gabbar Singh” is the Telugu remake of Salman Khan-starrer hit Hindi movie “Dabbang”. If “Dabangg” boosted Salman’s career, it seems “Gabbar Singh” will bring Pawan Kalyan to the centrestage, thanks to the commercial elements in the movie.

Pawan’s last few films - “Teen Maar”, “Komaram Puli” and “Panjaa” - were box office duds, but this film will be liked by his fans.

Pawan has one of the the largest fan followings on Orkut and he also has a strong mass following. Harish Shankar has made sure that he pleases both, the educated and the mass audiences by packaging the movie well.

Pawan’s energy level, dialogue delivery and comedy timings are top class throughout the film. “Gabbar Singh” is a Pawan centric film, just like “Dabbang”, which was centred around the charisma of Salman.

Shankar, who was a big fan of Pawan in his college days, has corporated all the elements that fans want to see in the actor’s film.

Stylish fight and dance scenes of Pawas will be surely enjoyed by his fans. On the flip side the emotional aspect, which was in focus in the Hindi film, has been completely neglected in the Telugu remake. And the much publicised “Keka, keka” picturised on Mallaika Arora is not a patch on the hit item song “Munni badnam hui”.

Venkata Rathna Naidu is a good looking young guy who doesn’t give two hoots to anyone. After becoming a police officer, Venkat returns to his village Kondaveeti where he lives with his parents and younger brother who is a spoilt brat.

He confronts local goon and politician Siddappa Naidu who has created a fear in the town along with his uncle. Meanwhile he falls in love with Bhagyalakshmi whose alcoholic father creates a lot of problems for her.

Siddappa uses Gabbar Singh’s younger brother to settle some political disputes. How Gabbar Singh stops Siddappa and marries Bhagyalakshmi forms the rest of the story.

Gabbar Singh ends with “Pawanism” and nothing else and fans would like it to the hilt. It is unfortunate that Shruti’s looks and Abhimanyu’s dynamic performance are overshadowed by Pawan’s overbearing presence.

Kota Sreenivasa Rao, Thanikella and Ajay look convincing in their respective roles. Brahmanandam and Ali’s comedy sequences are hilarious.

Senior artists like Suhasini and Nagineedu do not get enough scope to perform. Devisri Prasad’s music and good lyrics jazz up the film.

Jayanth Vincent is fabulous behind the camera.

But frankly speaking nothing else matters in “Gabbar Singh” except Pawan. If you are a Pawan fan, you will immensely like it. Otherwise also it is a good entertainer with. Watch it.

After delivering a blockbuster like “Magadheera” two years ago, it was felt that actor Ramcharan, son of Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi, would be occupying the pivotal place in the industry that undisputably belonged to his actor-turned-politician father.

Unfortunately, his next film “Orange”, produced by his uncle Naga Babu and directed by Bommarillu Bhaskar, was a flop. Therefore, Ramcharan took a longer time to accept a film and to select a commercially viable script before giving the nod to debutant Sampath Nandi’s screenplay.

“Rachcha” is much better than “Orange”, but cannot be minutely compared to the “Magadheera”.

In the latest film, Ramcharan has added a lot of appeal with daring action sequences. But he must improve his dialogue delivery.

“Rachcha” is about protagonist Raju, who is always a winner in betting. He finds himself in a tough situation when his father is diagnosed with serious health problems and needs to undergo surgery for a liver transplant.

To earn money for his father’s treatment, Raju bets with an underworld hireling to make business tycoon Ballary’s daughter Chaithra (played by Thamanna), fall in love with him.

Raju succeeds in his mission and even wins the bet. The film is filled with twists and turns, which show Raju has a secret mission to accomplish and Chaithra is in fact not the real daughter of Ballary.

“Rachcha” lacks a credible storyline with lacklustre and ordinary presentation.

Although it is technically well-versed, the film is essentially a formulaic presentation with a mix of everything. The action sequences have taken a little more space than the other commercial elements.

The director has taken a beaten path, which lacks variety and freshness. Even the music of the film by veteran composer Mani Sharma fails to strike a chord with the audience.

However, the major attraction of the film is lead actress Tamanna, who sizzles on the screen. She looks gorgeous and creates an impression with her energetic performance. There is not a single dull moment when she is on screen.

The glamour quotient in the “Vaana vaana” song is aimed at pleasing the younger audience and Tamanna scores well throughout the song.

Ramcharan’s action and dance sequences are a treat to his fans and remind of his father Chiranjeevi. He shows lot of style and energy in his performance, but fails to make an impact in emotional sequences.

Comic actors Brahmanandam, Ali, Venu Madhav and Krishna Bhagawan excel with their performances. Mukesh Rishi, Kota Sreenivasa Rao and Dev Gill, who play the baddies, are also quite impressive.

Verdict : Technically sound, but lacks storyline

The film “3″ is the maiden directorial venture of Aishwarya, daughter of Tamil movie icon Rajinikanth. Interestingly the film about three stages in the protagonists’ lives begins with a funeral shot, but the identity of the dead person is not clear initially.

The following scenes gradually reveal that it is misery struck Janani’s (Shruti) husband Ram (Dhanush) who is dead.

The stories continues with Janani’s memories opening up.

Ram, a class 12th student, falls in love with Janani whom he meets on the road. Janani hails from a middle-class family and they are going through a financial crunch, while Ram is the son of a successful businessman.

Janani tries to avoid Ram, given her family background and natural reaction of a teenage girl. Ram, however, follows her undeterred and finally wins her love. This flashback constitutes phase one of the movie.

Janani disregards her parents’ wishes and their dream of settling in the US after her college education to be with Ram. Gradually their parents accept their love and the two get married. Ram’s father buys a posh apartment for the young couple to live in. This is phase two.

After marriage, it is revealed that Ram suffers from bi-polar disorder. Ram’s friend Senthil (Sunder) finds out about his mental illness.

The doctor says that because of his illness Ram could be dangerous at times. So the friend decides to protect Janani from his unexpected emotional upheaval. They hide it from her. Senthil tries hard to cure his friend, while Janani struggles to cope up with Ram’s inexplicable behaviour. This is stage three of their lives.

What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

The first half is full of romance in scenes where Ram follows Janani, their midnight’s adventure romance on terrace, meetings at each other’s home in the absence of parents.

But there are many scenes that don’t go down well. For instance, a school girl going to bed with full makeup is not convincing. There are many such scenes, but they do not reduce the charm of the movie’s first half.

Excellent cinematography, Anirudh’s youthful background scores, Dhanush and Shruti’s chemistry and Aishwarya’s dialogues carry the movie forward.

The drama and emotion that ensues at Janani’s home after her parents oppose her relationship with Ram are beautifully portrayed.

But the movie falls flat in the second half.

It is an unwritten rule in Tamil cinema that if lovers are united before the interval, then in the later part either one of them dies or suffers from some disease. “Vazhve Mayam” and “Varanam Ayiram” are some of the examples.

Aishwarys’s “3″ is no exception. The hero suffers from a disease, but no valid explanation is given for that.

Hiding Ram’s illness from Janani is justified, but one wonders why Senthil didn’t approach Ram’s father who would’ve arranged for his treatment.

Post-interval, the movie never gets a chance to rise.

Dhanush and Shruti have performed well, both in romantic and emotional scenes. But their efforts have gone futile as audiences refuse to tolerate the same drama that they have already seen umpteen times.

Shruti looks beautiful. Dhanush was not playing a mentally disturbed person for the first time in “3″, and his acting has matured a lot.

Rohini has performed well. Sundar’s performance as Dhanush’s friend shows refinement.

More than Anirudh’s massive hit “Why this Kolvaeri”, “Kannazhaga” pleases our ears more.

The picturisation of the song “Kolaveri”, which went viral on the internet when released in November last year, doesn’t match up to its popularity.

Background music sounds good. Velraj’s cinematography has added a glow to the movie.

The director has attempted to show “3″ phases of life. Because of the pitfalls in the third phase, the movie falls apart.

Verdict : Stands between Joyful and serious love story

Young actor Manchu Manoj’s new film “Mr. Nookayya” could have been a good timepass popcorn film if director Ani Kannerghatti had increased the pace of the movie, which seems to be inspired by Mexican film “Lucia Lucia”.

Manchu is the real asset of the film and excels in his energy levels. His stylish looks, rocking dance movements and absorbing stunts are the major attractions of the film and it can dilute the impact of a weak narration.

The first half of “Nookayya” tests the patience of the audience, but it shapes up in the second half where director tries to mix up the two tracks of the story.

The audience may well be confused in the first half as the film’s narration is irritatingly prolonged. The director should have worked on these portions to make the film more entertaining and engrossing.

Other than lack of novelty in the script, the film suffers because not much importance is given to comedy sequences and even a superbly talented actor like Brahmanandam is wasted.

It is a stylishly made with some thrilling elements, but story is too predictable despite some twists here and there. The whole film revolves around Manchu Manoj and the the director seems to have ignored the characterisation of other equally important characters. In shot, he has failed to present a credible story.

Nookayya, a mobile thief, is engaged in many charitable causes. He is in love with a waitress and wants to settle down with her. He is always in search of opportunities to strike a big deal.

Meanwhile, Anu, who is married to a bank manager, faces a big problem in her life when her husband is kidnapped. The kidnapper demands a ransom of Rs.2 crore.

Anu tries to use her husband’s bank keys to arrange for the money. When she is taking the stolen money to the kidnapper, Nookayya is trying to steal the some money.

How Anu’s husband gets released from kidnappers and how Nookayya gets settled in his life form the rest of the plot.

Manchu Manoj has taken additional responsibility of choreographing the fights for the film. He has really shown a lot of improvement in his acting ability. Certainly, he comes good in his comedy timing, fights, dances and even emotional sequences.

Among the two heroines, it is Kriti Kharbanda who has more space to perform and impresses the best. Sana Khan’s presence is limited.

Among the character artists it is Ahuthi Prasad who shines. Raja impresses with his role.

The musical composition of Yuvan Shankar Raja and the camera work of Rajashekhar are of high standards.

Verdict: Just a time pass, can watch it for Manoj and Manoj alone.

The actor Nitin shot to fame with Teja directed “Jayam” and thanks to the success of the film he was touted as the next superstar in the making. But his choice of bad films with routine stories and ordinary directors has pushed him out of the star race.

But he returns to the reckoning with well-tuned romantic movie “Ishq”, made with good technical values and superb performances by the lead pair.

Director Vikram Kumar, who had directed R. Madhavan starrer Hindi thriller “13 B”, has written a good screenplay, which is fresh and contemporary.

The director has also been able to capitalise on cinematography by roping in best-known cameraman P.C. Sriram. Anoop-Arvind’s music is another plus point.

Kumar has tried to present Nitin differently and the actor shows lot of maturity in his portrayal. Even the conflict point in the story is used effectively.

Romantic sequences involving the two leading artists are well picturised. The first half is breezy and engaging. Though the second half is little inconsistent, the director gets a grip on the story towards the climax, which is interesting.

Of course, the film has loopholes - characterisation of Ajay, who plays heroine’s brother, is confusing. Second half has illogical sequences.

But the flaws notwithstanding, “Ishq” is a winning film and it will attract all sections of the viewers.

Rahul meets Priya on his way to airport and it is love at first sight for them. After some interesting sequences, they come together and love blossoms between them. But there is one sour point. Vidya’s brother with whom Rahul had a tusssle.

Nitin proves to be a competent actor who can carry any role decently. Even in the looks department, he scores well and shows a lot of maturity in his performance.

Nitya Menon takes over from where she had left in “Ala Modalaindi” to prove again that she is the most talented actress. The lead actors share a good chemistry on screen.

Ajay renders justice to his role. Ali adds up to the comedy quotient. Sindhu Tholani, Nagineedu, Sathya Krishna are apt choices for their respective roles.

Sriram’s brilliant camera work and Anoop-Arvind’s soothing music make the film a must watch. The dialogues are crisp and humorous most of the times.

Nitin makes a comeback through “Ishq”, which is a feel good romantic film.

Verdict: Feel-good romantic film
